CIE Australia Lighting Research Conference 2021

Welcome to the website of CIE Australia's 2021 Lighting Research Conference.  Researchers and members of the lighting community from Australia and overseas will present a variety of talks on topics relating to the core scientific work of the CIE.  We hope to see you online at what promises to be a high quality and informative one-day conference.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are sought for presentations and workshops in the field of light and lighting with specific emphasis on the following topics:

  • Vision and colour
  • Physical measurement of light and radiation
  • Interior lighting and lighting design
  • Transportation and exterior applications
  • Photobiology and photochemistry
  • Image technology

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words.  The conference will consist only of oral presentations of duration 15-20 minutes and workshops of duration 20-30 minutes (times subject to confirmation).  There will be no proceedings however an abstract booklet will be provided.  The deadline for abstract submission is Monday 14th December 2020 with acceptance notification by Monday 21st December.

Please use the abstract template for oral presentation or workshop when writing the abstract.  Abstracts can be submitted by email to

As there will be no proceedings, it is not critical that the oral presentations contain completed research - they can be used to show work in progress or inform the community of important developments.  Workshops can also be used to outline a problem or research gap that needs attention.  In addition to presenting research the intention of the conference is to promote discussion and collaboration between different research groups within Australia.

Conference Afterparty

As the conference is online only there will not be a conference dinner this year, however in the evening after the conference we will host a 1-hour online afterparty for informal chitchat with a glass of your favourite beverage from the comfort of your own home :-).  More details will follow.

* Participants wishing to register using CIE Australia membership must be financial members at the time of registration.  Students wishing to register must show either enrolment records or a letter from their supervisor or Head of Department.  Sustaining Organisation members can register up to five people at the CIE Australia member rate and Organisation Members can register up to three people at the CIE Australia member rate.
